A woman was arrested April 9 in Lyons after Riverside officers on patrol pulled her over and caught her lying about her identity, police reports show.

At about 4:30 p.m. that day, the officers saw the woman’s car heading south on South First Avenue approaching the intersection with Forbes Road and Waubansee Road. An officer ran the car’s license plates and found the vehicle’s registration was suspended because of a lack of insurance and had also expired. As the woman approached the intersection with Plainfield Avenue in Lyons, the officers activated their emergency lights and pulled her over.

When police asked the woman for her driver’s license and proof of insurance, the woman said she did not have anything on her because she was driving her best friend’s car. When the officers asked the woman for her name, she provided one. The officers ran the woman’s information through dispatch and asked for a driver’s license picture for the person whose name the woman gave, but the picture did not match the woman’s appearance, police said.

At that point, the officers placed the woman in handcuffs to transport her for a fingerprint inquiry. As one of the officers placed her in the squad car, they asked the woman for her best friend’s name, but she did not respond. The officer then asked if the woman stayed silent because she had given a false name, and the woman admitted she had. She then gave her real information and explained she had lied because her driver’s license is suspended, police reported.

At the station, the woman received four citations for her car having a suspended and expired registration as well as for driving an uninsured car with a suspended registration. Police also charged the woman for obstructing her identification. The woman was released, and a June 7 court date was set.

Ticketed for avoiding a red light and driving without a license

A 56-year-old Chicago man was ticketed April 8 in Brookfield after a police officer saw him pull into a gas station to get around a red light.

Around 12:30 a.m. that morning, the officer reported he saw the man’s car heading west on 31st Street near the intersection with Maple Avenue. The officer then saw the car turn into the Clark gas station and use it as a throughway to continue north onto Maple Avenue.

The officer pulled the man over at the intersection of Maple Avenue and 26th Street. When asked for a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance, the man provided valid insurance and an “out of country” license with no passport, police said. The man said he had established residency in Illinois a month and a half before and that he was in the process of obtaining asylum. The officer told the man he would need to obtain a valid driver’s license before continuing to drive.

The officer issued the man citations for disobeying the red light and driving without a valid license. The man’s car was left parked until he can obtain a valid driver’s license to move it, police reported. A May 14 court date was set.

Arrested for running a red light with a suspended license

A man was arrested April 8 in North Riverside after Riverside officers on patrol saw him run a red light.

At about 6 p.m. that night, the officers first saw the man’s car heading north on South First Avenue approaching the intersection with Forest Avenue, police said. The vehicle continued through the stoplight as it turned red, so the patrolling officers, who had been heading the other way, made a U-turn and followed the man in his car, turning on their emergency lights as they approached the intersection with 31st Street.

Police pulled the man over inside McCormick Woods. According to police, the man provided proof of insurance and an Indiana driver’s license, which was revealed to be suspended when the officers ran the man’s information through the database. After arresting the man, the officers said they inventoried his car and found several open beer bottles and a quarter-full bottle of another alcoholic beverage.

One officer transported the man to the station while the other stayed with the man’s car to wait for it to be towed. Police issued three citations to the man for disobeying the traffic light, driving with a suspended license and illegally transporting alcohol. The man was released, and a May 3 court date was set.

Arrested for unsecured passengers and driving without a license

A man was arrested April 6 in Berwyn after a Riverside police officer on patrol saw a child moving about unsecured in the backseat of the man’s car.

Around 7 p.m. that evening, the officer reported he saw the car heading east on 26th Street near the intersection with Harlem Avenue when they saw a child “jumping around” in the backseat, so the officer pulled the car over. When the officer approached the driver and asked for a driver’s license and proof of insurance, the man provided proof of insurance but said he did not have a driver’s license. The officer said he ran the man’s name through the police database, which revealed he had never had a driver’s license.

The officer then arrested the man and brought him back to the station. At the scene, the officer asked the man’s wife if she had a driver’s license, but she did not, so she and their child were also given a ride to the station lobby. The man received three charges and was later released, and a May 3 court date was set.
