Michele Sandrik, 69, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, died peacefully on March 19, 2024. She was born on Nov. 17, 1954 in Chicago, where she spent
most of her early years until marrying and moving to Riverside. There she spent over 40 years living and raising her family while participating as an active member of the community.
Her recent years were spent in Hampstead, North Carolina, enjoying retirement with her husband and spending time with grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling for family vacations, hosting friends and family in her home, and spoiling her grandkids. She will be remembered for her warmth and friendliness, generosity to family and those in need, and thoughtfulness toward others despite her own physical limitations.
Michele is survived by her husband, Mark Sandrik, with whom she shared 47 years of marriage; her children, John Sandrik (Rachel), Rachel Donoghue (Michael), and Matthew Sandrik (Lisa), as well as her grandchildren, Evelyn and Jude Sandrik, Benjamin Sandrik, and Ronan Donoghue. She was preceded in death by her mother, Stella Kmak; her father, Mitchell Kowynia; and her brother, Leonard Kowynia.
Michele’s life will be honored in a memorial service at Ascension Lutheran Church, 400 Nuttall Road in Riverside, on June 29 at 10 a.m. Following the service, all are welcome to attend light refreshments in the church basement.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Michele’s memory to Friedman Place of Chicago at www.friedmanplace.org, where her brother, Leonard, received exceptional care for many years.
