Two men were shot during a fight at North Riverside Park Mall, authorities said.

In a news conference on site, Mayor Joseph Mengoni said that a single shot injured two men during the incident just before 5:20 p.m. July 3.

“What we do know is that it was a physical altercation between two males and two females resulting in one gunshot injury to both males,” he said.

Both men were taken to a nearby hospital and are in stable condition, he added. Their identities have not been released.

He reported that authorities believed the shooter “fled” the scene and is part of the two couples involved in the shooting.

Mengoni did not return the Landmark’s request for comment.

Neighboring police and fire departments assisted during the initial investigation. No gun has been found, authorities said, and no arrests had been made as of 9:50 p.m. July 3. The investigation is ongoing.

As of late Thursday evening, the mall appeared to be ready to open for holiday hours July 4.

A statement from the village in the early evening asked that people stay away from the site during the incident. They added that there is no immediate danger to the area.
