If you’re looking to enjoy some live music and support homelessness prevention, look no further than your own back yard — or your neighbor’s front yard.
The “Ravinia on Raymond” community concert and block party is coming to Brookfield on Saturday, Aug. 17. The event, hosted by local nonprofit Music & Potlucks, will run from 4-9 p.m. at 3517-3529 Raymond Ave. Attendees should bring chairs and their own snacks and refreshments.
The concert will feature live music by Music & Potlucks’ Mark Dvorak as well as Ed Ellis of LaGrange, Karen Wegman Barr of Berwyn, Paul Klonowski of Mundelein and others.
The concert and party are open to everyone with no charge to enter, though Music & Potlucks will accept donations benefitting BEDs Plus, a LaGrange-based provider of emergency shelter, housing services and homelessness prevention serving southwest suburban Cook County. Anyone interested can give cash donations and bring bagged non-perishable food items and toiletries.
Music & Potlucks has hosted community arts events to support local social service agencies since 2017, including Brookfield’s Share Food, Share Love food pantry.
“This is the sort of community event where folk songs really come to life and express a common message,” said Dvorak, who is producing the concert, in a written statement. “We’ve gathered a great cast of area singers and songwriters who are invested in the folk community and committed to pitching in to help our neighbors in need. We’re very excited.”
Correction, Aug. 9, 2024, 4:45 p.m.: A former version of this story misstated the name of the nonprofit hosting the event. That organization is Music & Potlucks. The Landmark apologizes for the error.
