Riverside Arts Center, Falling Pieces: Alison Rutta
The Riverside Arts Center’s Freeark Gallery is pleased to present Falling to Pieces, a solo exhibition of Alison Ruttan’s ceramic sculpture. Please join us for an opening reception Sunday. Home, be it a building or a planet, conjures up thoughts of comfort and safety. However, current news feeds are filled with images of war-torn structures, flooded villages, and devastated housing. Alison Ruttan transforms her observations of this human-created violence, climate change, and neglect into moving architectural sculptures. The exhibition is on view Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 1 – 5 p.m. through November 30. Circle back with me on the week of Saturday, November 16 to get details on the Artist Talk with Ruttan.

The Riverside Arts Center’s FlexSpace is pleased to present Sharon Hoogstraten’s photography exhibition, Dancing for Our Tribe. In her artist statement, the artist says: “These formal portraits, accompanied by personal statements, portray a fresh reality of today’s native descendants and their regalia; people who live in a world of assimilation, sewing machines, proud military service, and high resolution digital cameras.” The artist will give a talk on the evening of Wednesday, November 6 at 7 p.m. at the Riverside Public Library, just around the corner from the gallery. Spooky Craft Night

Drop by the Library Classroom for spooky crafts and snacks. Parents and caregivers attending the Mental Health Resources for Parents of Kids and Teens presentation by NAMI Chicago and The Loft may leave children ages 6 and older with the supervising librarian at this concurrent craft class. 3541 Park Ave.
Mental Health Resources for Parents of Kids and Teens
Monday, October 21, 6:30 p.m. LSF Brookfield Library
Trina Brockus, a family support specialist who works with NAMI and The Loft at Eight Corners, a space in Brookfield dedicated to supporting teens’ mental wellness, will present on how best to support the mental health of kids and teens. All parents, caregivers, educators, and other interested participants are welcome to attend. Child supervision will be provided for kids ages 6 and older at the concurrent Spooky Craft Night event in the Library Classroom. 3541 Park Ave.
