Michael T. Richards, 63, of Riverside, died on Sept. 13, 2025. Born on June 16, 1962, he was vice president of investments at Stifel in Chicago, a longtime coach, and founder of the St. Mary’s Parish Church basketball league. A man of strong faith, he never missed the chance to remind his children before bed, “Say your prayers. Love you. Goodnight.”
He had a zest for life, a great sense of humor, and was known for handing out clever nicknames to family and friends. He loved watching tennis, enjoying a good “mixy” on the patio, getting a relaxing back massage, and spending time outdoors golfing, gardening, biking through Riverside, traveling, and enjoying all water activities. He especially treasured trips to Michigan and New Jersey. A devoted follower of politics and a natural storyteller, he brought energy and laughter wherever he went and leaves behind countless memories.
Mike was the husband of Mary (nee Richardson) Richards; the father of William, Ryan, Ellie, and Erin Richards; the son of Nancy (nee Buyer) and the late Melvin Richards; brother of Juliana (Jeff) Tonkin, Paul (Karen) Richards, and the late Timothy (Heather) Richards; brother-in-law of William (Elizabeth) Richardson, Kathleen (John) Gronert, Anne (Nicholas) Ghizzone, Jennifer Richardson, James (Basia) Richardson, and Thomas (Tiffany) Richardson; and is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Road (2 blocks west of Mannheim), Westchester, on Thursday, Sept.18 from 4 until 8 p.m. All are asked to meet on Friday at St. Mary Church, 105 Herrick Road, in Riverside, for a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
