Girolamo “Mimmo” Romano, 93, died on Dec. 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family at his Brookfield home. Mimmo, as he was affectionately known, was born on April 4, 1932, in Misilmeri, Sicily. He was married to Vincenza Abbate for 67 years — a union marked by love, commitment, faith, and unwavering partnership. Together, they raised a beautiful family, first in Sicily and later in Brookfield, where he built a life rooted in family, hard work, Sicilian traditions, and a love for gardening and cooking.

Known for his strong values, quiet strength, generosity of spirit, and witty sense of humor, he loved to tell stories of his past — stories of Sicily, family, and life’s challenges — revealing the experiences that shaped him and the lessons he carried forward.

He carried his Sicilian heritage with pride and instilled in his family the importance of faith, respect, perseverance, and togetherness. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.

Mimmo was preceded in death by his beloved son, Giusto Romano. He is survived by his wife, Vincenza Abbate Romano; his children, Antonino Romano (Sharyn) and Gaetana Romano Di Fatta (Vincent); his daughter-in-law, Pia; and his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends.

Visitation and funeral Mass were held on Dec. 27 at St. Barbara Church, 4000 Prairie Ave., Brookfield. Entombment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Christ the King Garden Mausoleum, Hillside.
