Mary Ann Moravek, 94, a resident of Riverside for 60 years, died on Feb. 10, 2026. A gregarious soul and matriarch of a large family, she always put her friends and family ahead of herself.

Her passions included biking and tennis; which she did well into her 80s. She could often be seen pedaling her bicycle to one of the Riverside tennis courts. An avid athlete, she was also a lifeguard and a competitive table tennis player. She enjoyed reading and was a regular patron of the Riverside Public Library.

Later in life, she affectionately referred to herself as “Goldie” after Goldie Hawn. She enjoyed socializing at senior fairs and luncheons and participating in Bingo games.

One of her claims to fame might have been the first women trailblazer to wear gym shoes on the Burlington Northern train line while commuting to her downtown Chicago legal secretary job.

Mary Ann was the wife of the late Joseph; the mother of Nora (Ron) Zborowski, Paul (Renee), Abigail (Dick) Sexton, Anne (Mark) Nystrom, and Brian (Laura); grandmother of Ann Marie (Greg), Stevie (Brett), RJ (Niki), Spencer (Meredith), Astin, Corey (Gina), Daniel (Dave), Emma (Eric), Kyle (Phoebe), late Elizabeth, Eileen (Gerardo), Tim, Mary, and Christine; great-grandmother of 11; and sister of the late William (Evelyn) Havlicek.

A gathering to honor her will be held on Feb. 28, starting at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 105 Herrick Road in Riverside, followed by Mass at 11.
