Douglas Leland Rumph, 76, died peacefully at home in Naples, Florida on May 8, 2026 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in 1949, he attended Riverside Brookfield High School and, upon graduating, enlisted in the Army, proudly serving two tours of duty in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne, earning a Bronze Star. After his service, he started a concrete business with his brother Jeff before finding his true calling on the trading floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange — a career he loved from the minute he stepped onto the floor.
A lifelong, die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, he stuck with his team through the lean years with the same loyalty and conviction he brought to everything else in life, and the joy he felt when they finally won the World Series in 2016 was something those around him will never forget. He also enjoyed the many afternoons coaching Clarendon Hills Little League and playing ball with his son Danny and the team. Win or lose, he always treated the team to hot dogs and ice cream and a memorable end-of-season party.
Music was a constant companion, and he had a particular love for the oldies station. A favorite was his mechanical Elvis Santa that shook its hips to “Blue Christmas” — a staple of the legendary Christmas Eve gatherings he hosted each year, filling the house with family, laughter, and a little bit of The King.
He had an adventurous spirit when it came to food, genuinely delighting in trying new restaurants and approaching every meal as its own small adventure. And when it came to dessert, Doug was never shy.
Above all, he treasured his granddaughter, Brynn. His pride was boundless and unmistakable.
Doug is survived by his wife, Julie; his son, Daniel; his granddaughter, Brynn; his brothers, Kenneth and David (Debbie); his sister, Sandra Bromagen; his sister-in-law, Margie; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Barbara; his brother, Jeffery; his niece, Rachel Rumph; and his brother-in-law, Glenn Bromagen.
