KOSEY CORNER
Traditionally, my column before Thanksgiving is devoted to “the forgotten holiday,” and, sticking with the tradition, I will do the same this year with a few added items.

As always, husband Joe will make the turkey and stuffing. It is “stuffing” because it is “stuffed” into the bird. If it on the side, it is “dressing” and you didn’t have to call the Butterball hotline to find that out.

The tradition of husband Joe cooking the turkey has been going on for years. Only once in our married life did I cook the bird. It turned out well, I might add, but this is Joe’s thing, which he enjoys doing, and who am I to cut into his fun and give myself more work?

The Kosey tradition also means daughter Tina will make the sweet potatoes, using her grandmother’s recipe and son Michael will add some sides. Are you noticing I don’t have to do much?

Though food may be what is bringing us together, it really means we are thankful to be together.

Now here come the added items for this year. Riverside residents Bob and Sally Faust of Faust Graphics have come up with a way for you to thank people in this age of technology. Go to the website Appreciate-it.com to learn how you can let someone know how you “appreciate” them. In today’s world where more people seem to criticize others, this would be refreshing. Hopefully, I will have more info on this soon.

One of my favorite happenings is the Hauser Canned Food Drive (the history of this drive will be featured in this column next week), so start saving your canned goods. This year, Scott Zimmer of the Chew Chew Cafe will be assisting the drive on Dec. 4 from 12-2 p.m. Events are also scheduled at Mollie’s.

What better time to pick up those canned items than on Nov. 27, which is “Small Business Saturday” (Hallmark doesn’t have a card for that yet). Shopping locally can be more fun and less hassle!

So that’s it for this year and, yes, I have a lot to be thankful for. Included on my thankful list are my faithful readers who give me ideas or make a nice comment. High on that list are Dan Haley and Bob Uphues because without them I would not be able to share with you every week, so thank you.

Happy Thanksgiving!
