The Riverside-Brookfield volleyball team had a busy day at the Rolling Meadows Invitational on Saturday. The Bulldogs played five games, including three three-match games, to finish 2-3 on the day.

In the Silver Division consolation match for seventh place, the Bulldogs (6-8) downed St. Viator 25-8, 17-25, 25-23.

Pete Jansen led RB with five kills, while Matt Gehrke and Galen Ryan each tallied four kills. Gehrke and Ivan Garcia led the team defensively with seven digs apiece.

Earlier in the tournament, the Bulldogs defeated Maine West 20-25, 25-9, 15-10.

Gehrke had five kills, three aces, five digs and a block. Juan Gomez also had a strong match with four kills, two aces, seven digs and a block. Elliot Louthen paced the offense with 16 assists to go along with his 12 blocks.

Fenwick tennis finishes third

The Fenwick tennis team finished third out of eight teams competing at the Rolling Meadows Invitational on Saturday.

Mike Pill finished third in No. 1 singles by defeating Dean Tanglis 6-1, 6-1.

Fenwick’s Rob Hickey and Tyler Kiefer finished second in double’s action. Hickey and Kiefer advanced to the doubles final with straight-set wins over Lake Zurich, Palatine and Rolling Meadows. The duo lost to Lake Zurich 7-5, 7-6 in the final.

Fenwick will take part in the Glenbard West Invitational on Saturday.

Oswald headed to Illinois Wesleyan

Riverside-Brookfield standout basketball player Dan Oswald committed to Illinois Wesleyan University last week.

Oswald, a 6-foot-2-inch senior guard for the Bulldogs, averaged 17 points per game during the winter season. He scored 27 points in an 84-80 victory over St. Charles East before breaking his wrist during the St. Charles Christmas Tournament. Oswald managed to come back from the injury early to help RB finish with a 24-3 overall record.

Fenwick soccer shuts out MC

The Fenwick soccer team blanked Marian Catholic 3-0 last week with balanced scoring from three different players. Carly Smith, Colleen Hussey and Clare Madden all scored for Fenwick.

The Friars are now 6-2 overall.

Kaminski wins four events

Riverside resident Pauline Kaminski, 12, swam to several top times at the Illinois Short Course Yards State Junior Olympics last month.

Kaminski, who swims with the Hickory Willow Swim Association, finished first in four events at the meet. She won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 31.53 seconds, and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.72. The times qualified her for the NCSA Junior National Meet in Orlando, Fla.

Friars keep rolling

Before leaving for a Spring Break tournament in Florida, the Fenwick boys water polo team downed St. Ignatius 17-5. Chris Wendt scored six goals, while John Osborne and Brian Barron added three apiece in the win.

The Friars also blasted Neuqua Valley out of the water last week by a score of 30-4. Dan Barron and Craig Borkovec led the onslaught with four goals apiece. Brian Barron, Colin Corvino, Osbourne and Mark Ryden scored three goals apiece. Brian Barron also finished with seven assists and four steals. Matt Napleton and Dan Francisco combined for nine saves in goal.
