Joseph N. Antonicic, 93, Millwright

Longtime Brookfield resident Joseph N. Antonicic, 93, died Jan. 8, 2008 at Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in LaGrange.

Mr. Antonicic moved to Brookfield in 1953, the same year he married Beatrice A. Cahill, and remained there the rest of his life. For 34 years he was a millwright at the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors in McCook, retiring in 1977.

He was a member of Local 719 United Auto Workers and the UAW Retirees’ Club, for whom he was a board member. He was an auto buff who enjoyed making financial investments.

He is survived by his wife; his son, John (Barbara) Antonicic; his daughter, Judith (William) Schlipp; his grandsons, James Antonicic, Timothy Antonicic and Christopher Antonicic; and his great grandchildren, Jonathan Antonicic and Alexandra Antonicic.

A funeral service was held Jan. 12 at Johnson Funeral Home, Brookfield, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park.

Rosemary Babich, 78, Retired factory worker

Rosemary Babich (nee Kendzierski), 78, a resident of Brookfield, died Jan. 10, 2008 at LaGrange Memorial Hospital.

Born in Chicago on Oct. 4, 1929 to Louis and Rose (nee Tomaszewski) Kendzierski, she married Louis Babich and worked at a manufacturing factory.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her daughter, Nancy Lynn Babich.

She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Donna (Rick) Lavin; her grandchildren, Katie Lavin, Ricky Lavin, Chelsea Lavin, Haley Lavin, Hanna Lavin and Joey Lavin; her sisters, Alice (George) Oswalt, Florence Kendzierski, Irene (Robert) McDonnell; and Bernice (Stephen) Laughrin; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 14 at St. Barbara Church in Brookfield, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.

Joseph J. Duda, 84, Factory worker

Joseph J. Duda, 84, a resident of Berwyn and former resident of North Riverside, died Jan. 9, 2008 at his home.

Mr. Duda was a factory worker at Continental Can Company prior to his retirement. He enjoyed taking walks and visiting the library.

Mr. Duda was preceded in death by his siblings, Martin Duda, Frank Duda, John Duda, Walter Duda, Edward Duda, Marie Janczy and Betty Kratish. He is survived by his sister, Theresa (Thomas) Janczy, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 12 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.

John J. Hovorka Sr., 80, Active Mater Christi member

John J. Hovorka Sr., 80, of North Riverside, died Jan. 3, 2008 at his home.

A U.S. Army veteran who served from 1945-47, Mr. Hovorka was a longtime resident of North Riverside and an active parishioner at Mater Christi Church. In addition to being a sacristan, he was a minister of care, lector and Eucharistic minister.

He was married to Audrey Mae (nee Hladis) with whom he raised 10 children.

He was also a member of the St. Vincent De Paul Society, Boy Scouts of America (awarded the Wood Badge, Bronze Pelican and St. George Medal), Catholic Order of Foresters and the Holy Name Society.

He was employed for many years by Commerce Clearing House, prior to his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey Hovorka (nee Hladis); his children, John Hovorka Jr., Alin Hovorka, Anne Hovorka, David (Jean) Hovorka, Mary (Frank) Puccini, Karen (Jim) DalPorto, Carol (Bob) Davidson, Paul (Joanne) Hovorka and Peter Hovorka; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Edward Hovorka.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 8 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

Richard J. Janda, 71, Airline employee

Lifelong Brookfield resident Richard J. Janda, 71, died Jan. 9, 2008 at LaGrange Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Janda attended Lincoln School in Brookfield, graduating in 1950. He graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Army from 1961-63.

On July 23, 1966, Mr. Janda married Charlene S. Ott at Faith Lutheran Church in Brookfield. That year, he also began his career with American Airlines, where he worked as a freight handler for 30 years. He retired in 1996.

He was a member of Transport Workers Union Local 512 and enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Janda is survived by his wife; his daughters, Suzanne (Michael) King and Kathleen (Kevin) McQuillen; and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn McQuillen and Bailey King.

Funeral services were private. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.

Henrietta M. Ludwig, 91, Brookfield homemaker

Henrietta M. Ludwig (nee Jilek), 91, of Brookfield, died Jan. 9, 2008 at the Scottish Home in North Riverside.

Born on Oct. 31, 1916 in Chicago to Rudolph and Mary (nee Skoumal) Jilek, she married Henry J. Ludwig Jr. and raised two sons. Mr. Ludwig preceded his wife in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Steven (Margaret) Ludwig; and her great grandchildren, Lauren Drost and Elliot Drost.

Ms. Ludwig is survived by her son, Edward (Marilyn) Ludwig; her grandchildren, Lisa (Thomas) Drost, Kristin Ludwig and Jon (Jenny) Ludwig; and her great grandchildren, Braydon Ludwig, Ryan Ludwig and Kate Drost.

A funeral service was held Jan. 15 at Hitzeman Funeral Home, Brookfield. Interment was private.

Raymond W. McDonald, 86, Retired salesman

North Riverside resident Raymond W. McDonald, 86, formerly of Oak Park, died Jan. 9, 2008 at his home.

Mr. McDonald was a U.S. Army veteran who served during World War II. He was retired from the Sears, Roebuck Co., where he was a salesman.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary McDonald (Nee Jacobson); his sons, Ray McDonald, Thomas McDonald and Peter (Lisa) McDonald; his grandchildren, Jeffrey McDonald, Melanie McDonald, Shannon McDonald and Samantha McDonald; and his siblings, Barrett McDonald, Betty Ann Lickteig and Mary Eileen Alverson McDonald.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry McDonald.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 11 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by entombment at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Hillside.
