Around 11 p.m. on Sept. 21, Riverside police spotted multiple teenagers drinking in the front yard and inside a home in the 200 block of Lionel Road. When police approached the underage drinkers, they bolted into the house, locking the door behind them.
Police knocked, and the teens turned the lights off, falling silent. Police stated they weren’t leaving until someone answered, and an hour later, the parents showed up, unlocking the door.
Inside, police allegedly found 14 teens in the basement (only one female), along with 50 empty beer cans, two beer kegs and an empty marijuana bong, which police smashed. Riverside officers used a North Riverside van to transport all 14 teens back to the station. They were all charged with possession and consumption of alcohol by a minor and released to custody of their parents after posting the $75 bond.
All under 17, the teens live in Riverside (6), Brookfield (5), LaGrange Park (2) and Forest Park (1). Police are looking at additional charges under a parental responsibility ordinance.
DUI
Brookfield police arrested Kenneth Anderson, 38, of Broadview around 5:24 a.m. on Sept. 21 after he crashed into the Veterans Memorial Circle while driving southbound on Maple Avenue. The crash damaged the grass, landscape and brickwork of the fountain. Police charged Anderson with damage to property and DUI, and he was released after posting bond.
Burglary
Someone smashed out the front passenger side window of a silver Mitsubishi between 12:30 and 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 while it was parked in the 4500 block of Raymond Avenue in Brookfield. The burglar removed a portable global positioning system unit worth around $500.
A burglar entered a garage in the 3000 block of Prairie Avenue in Brookfield sometime during the overnight hours of Sept. 18 and Sept. 19, removing a generator, water pump and chainsaw, worth an estimated total of $1,500.
Narcotics arrest
Riverside police pulled over Countryside resident Jordan Nicolosi, 22, just before 6 p.m. on Sept. 19 after an officer reported that he was driving 47 mph in a 30 mph zone while westbound on Ogden Avenue at Haas Avenue. Police allegedly observed Nicolosi sweating profusely and shaking uncontrollably.
He reportedly refused medical assistance, but police noticed a small, clear plastic bag, tied at one end, on the driver’s seat. Inside were four packets, later found to contain morphine. Another bag was later found, confirmed to contain cannabis. Nicolosi reportedly possessed 3.96 grams of morphine and 6.22 grams of marijuana.
He claimed to have purchased the drugs at Cermak Road and Austin Boulevard in Cicero for $100. Police charged him with misdemeanor possession of cannabis, drug paraphernalia and felony possession of a controlled substance.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside and Brookfield police departments from Sept. 17 through Sept. 24, 2007 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not been adjudicated.
