Horace S. Kauper, 91, Western Electric foreman
Lifelong Brookfield resident Horace S. Kauper, 91, died Feb. 16, 2007 at LaGrange Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Kauper was a 1930 graduate of S.E. Gross School in Brookfield and a 1934 graduate of Riverside-Brookfield High School. After graduating from high school, he began a long career at the Western Electric Company in Cicero. He left the company to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II, but returned after the war, rising to the position of foreman. In 1977, after 39 years at Western Electric, he retired.
An avid golfer, Mr. Kauper was also a member of the Hawthorne Chapter #45 Telephone Pioneers of America, a lifetime member of the Brookfield AMVETS and Brookfield VFW Post 2868, and a member of the National Geographic Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ida Kauper; his brothers, Lloyd Kauper and Fred Kauper; and his sisters, Frances Hyland and Jane Hylton. He is survived by two nieces, three nephews and many great nieces and great nephews.
A funeral service was held feb. 20 at Johnson Funeral Home, Brookfield, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

Carl O. Rundberg, 73, Air Force veteran
Riverside resident Carl O. Rundberg, 73, died Feb. 8, 2007.
Mr. Rundberg graduated from Rutgers University where he was a member of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon and a member of the ROTC. After graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
Following his years in the service, Mr. Rundberg worked for Continental Can Company in various locations including Paris, France. His hobbies were traveling, Formula 1 racing and sailing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (nee Borngasser). Survivors include his sons, Carl F. (Julia) Rundberg and Erik (Suzanne) Rundberg; his daughters, Gale (Steven) Teune and Valerie (Don) Cain; his grandchildren, Lauren, Rachel, Shelby, Shannon, Matthew and Lily; his brother-in-law, Fred (Sandy) Borngasser; and his best friend, Lynn Labotka.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Feb. 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, 250 Woodside Road, Riverside. Dr. Albert N. Sion, 83, Physician
Dr. Albert Nessim Sion, a noted hematologist and pathologist, died Feb. 11, 2007 at the age of 83. He was a resident of Riverside for 45 years.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt, Dr. Sion came to the United States in 1948 and served in the U.S. Navy as a ship’s doctor. He later worked at Loretto Hospital and St. Anthony Hospital prior to joining the staff at Jackson Park Hospital, where he was on the board of directors and was named chairman of the laboratory.
A proficient physician and surgeon, Dr. Sion was named Doctor of the Year in 1993. He was a proud member of the American Board of Pathology, American Academy of Family Physicians, the Chicago Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He was licensed to practice medicine in Illinois, New York and California.
Dr. Sion retired as a physician in 1998 after 32 years in practice.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola (nee Ellwanger), and by his brothers, Mauricio Sion and Salomon Sion. He is survived by his son, Jonathan A. (Elizabeth) Sion; his grandchildren, Samuel Sion and Amanda Sion; and his sisters, Fortuna and Alicia.
A memorial service was held Feb. 15 at Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home. Arrangements were handled by Riverside Funeral Directors, Brian D. Kuratko, director.
