I hope you were able to enjoy the long weekend with Labor Day! The Landmark offices were closed on Monday, which gave me a nice chance to rest.
Fans of community theater will be enthused by one of my stories this week. The Glaser Players and Strand Theater are taking to St. Paul’s Parish in Riverside these next two weekends to put on six shows of Neil Simon’s comedy “California Suite.” There are only 100 tickets for each showing, and they’re already available for purchase online, so don’t wait to get yours!
In other news, a planned five-story luxury apartment complex at 28-30 E. Burlington St. broke ground in downtown Riverside last Tuesday after many years of planning. Property owner Patrick Leone, who with his wife Mary Leone, owns and operates La Barra just up the street, bought the two properties he’s consolidating in 2017 and 2018.
Village officials also agreed to budget some money in 2027 to help restaurant owners bring their outdoor dining barriers in line with newly established regulations and discussed the history of Riverside’s firehouses and why it won’t hurt response times in an emergency to consolidate them into the planned remodel of the joint fire and police station next to Township Hall, south of the BNSF railroad tracks.
