The Frederick Law Olmsted Society and the Riverside Public Library will co-host “Rethinking Your Lawn,” in the Great Room of the library, 1 Burling Road, on Wednesday, May 11 at 7 p.m.

Co-founder of West Cook Wild Ones, Stephanie Walquist will present the science and art behind converting part of your property to native landscaping. She will show how selecting hardy Illinois prairie plants instead of grass can add beauty and variety to a yard and attract birds and butterflies, while saving water and reducing the need for lawn mowing.

Examples of successful native landscaping projects and initiatives — from self-sustaining gardens to wildlife conservation corridors — will be included.
