I would like to thank the Landmark for the compliments given me in their endorsements column in the March 25 issue. They say that imitation is the best form of flattery, and this adage holds true for some of the accomplishments cited by the Landmark by my opponent for Brookfield village president.
The park land at Jaycee/Ehlert Park was acquired by the VIP administration and the OSLAD grant used to help fund the improvements was also instituted by the VIP, kudos to the PEP administration for following up on our plan.
The street improvements credited to the PEP group was also started by the VIP Party, although who can forget that it was delayed by PEP because it was not their idea. Some of the grants used to fund some major street construction were applied for under the VIP Party; more kudos for continuing another of our plans. I have to compliment the current administration for the TIF on Ogden and some other improvements.
The critique given the current village board is hardly flattering, and goes to the core of the issue. The village has serious financial problems which were exacerbated by lack of oversight and vision.
The solution is not to force unpaid furloughs or layoffs on police, firefighters, public works employees and office workers which would create serious public safety issues. The village of Brookfield needs new, efficient financial direction to guide it through these difficult times.
I have confidence in the people of Brookfield, confidence that they will see through the prevarications, slander and fear-mongering, confident that they want to know the truth.
