When news broke last week that Wishbone Restaurant was leaving its Berwyn location, owner Joel Nickson told the Landmark’s sister paper, Wednesday Journal, that he was still interested in finding another location in the area.

That got the attention of more than one municipal leader, including Riverside Village Manager Peter Scalera, who confirmed he contacted Nickson to tout Riverside as a landing spot for the restaurant.

Scalera told the Landmark he gave Nickson the contact information for both the Village Center and the Arcade Building in downtown Riverside and urged him to have a look at the locations.

“Hopefully he’ll go out and look at them,” Scalera said.

Nickson told Wednesday Journal reporter Marty Stempniak that he actually has considered Riverside, although Nickson didn’t sound entirely sold on the location.

“Riverside’s a great area, but the trouble is, who can get in there?” Nickson told Stempniak.

“If you’re only dependent on Riverside …” he added, his voice trailing off.

Still, he said he’s willing to listen to what anyone in Riverside has to offer.

But he is willing to hear what Riverside had to say

“It doesn’t hurt to talk to anybody,” he said.

Nickson said a potential deal for a space in the Beverly neighborhood of Chicago fell through, and he’d prefer to own the space rather than rent it.
