Through the month of January, the oil paintings of local artist Tanya Gadbaw will be shown in the North Riverside Mall Theatre’s Lobby, located at 7501 West Cermak Road. Classic Cinemas is delighted to feature Tanya Gadbaw, whose folk-centric paintings were inspired by her upbringing in the rolling hills of Upstate New York. Tanya’s evocative still lifes explore the connection between object and identity, while always incorporating the comfort and warmth of home life.
Tanya Gadbaw is affiliated with 33 Contemporary Gallery in Chicago and displays her work there often. Gadbaw holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting and drawing from S.U.N.Y Potsdam as well as a Master of Fine Arts in painting from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. With 12 years of experience under her belt, Gadbaw has homed in on her artistic identity, and describes herself as an “oil painter who loves to paint based on expression and isn’t afraid to leave a bold brushstroke.” Her work has been showcased in galleries from Chicago to Vienna, Austria.
Gadbaw says the collection that will be exhibited at North Riverside Mall Theatre speaks of the home. “I grew up in a family where ‘folk,’ the farm, and many home elements were important. These objects remind me of my childhood and my close family,” explains Gadbaw. When asked about her upcoming showcase, Gadbaw says, “I am excited to have my art viewed by others at the North Riverside Mall Theatre. This is a new space for my work and I love getting new viewers!”
In addition to her feature in North Riverside, Gadbaw has an upcoming showcase in the Laura A. Sprague Art Gallery at the Joliet Junior College January 22-February 15, 2013. Make sure to check out the warm, beautiful paintings of local painter Tanya Gadbaw.
