Reading the Landmark is not only informative and edifying, it can also, apparently, result in prizes.

In today’s edition of the newspaper, I wrote a historical piece on the 100th anniversary of the great Riverside water tower fire, which occurred on Jan. 1, 1913. Give it a look; it’s only riveting.

The article caught the eye of Derrick Mancini, the owner of the Quincy Street Distillery at 39 E. Quincy St. in Riverside. He emailed me this morning to let me know that any customers at the Quincy Street Distillery who mention that article or historical event on Friday, Dec. 28 or Saturday, Dec. 29 between 2 and 8 p.m. will receive a free logo-etched Glencairn whiskey-tasting glass when they buy a 750-ml bottle of the distillery’s Water Tower White Lightning — only one per adult customer.
