Nasty-gram
On Jan. 2, a resident of the 2300 block of Northgate Avenue, North Riverside, reported that he received a hand-written letter stating, “Can you read English? Whenever Mexicans move in, Police are sure to follow. Mexs are the most ignorant race on the Planet!! Go back where you came from. Your neighbors on Northgate want you all gone!!”
The resident, who is Hispanic, said that a similar letter came in the mail during the summer. The latest note was left at his door in an unmarked white envelope.
Burglary
A resident of the 3100 block of Arthur Avenue, Brookfield, reported to police that between 2:15 and 8 p.m. on Dec. 25, someone forced open the rear door to her home and removed a TV, laptop computer and cash.
On Dec. 27, a resident of the 3900 block of Vernon Avenue, Brookfield, reported that someone attempted to force open the rear door of her home between 1 and 8:30 a.m. The door was damaged, but entry was never gained.
A neighbor noticed the damage and notified the family of the incident, according to the police report.
A resident of the 3600 block of Madison Avenue, Brookfield, reported that sometime between 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 1 p.m. on Jan. 1, someone entered his unlocked 2010 Chevy Silverado and removed a silver pocket knife, a silver multi-tool and a pair of gloves from the glove compartment.
While investigating that incident, police also found casino club cards and a grocery store card on the ground nearby. The cards belonged to a man who lived in the 3600 block of Raymond Avenue. Police believe those cards were taken in a separate vehicle burglary.
A 31-year-old North Riverside man reported on Jan. 6 that, at 1:30 a.m., he heard his car alarm go off. When he went to the parking lot at the rear of his apartment building to check his car, the man found that the driver’s side window of his 2002 Oldsmobile Bravada was shattered and his car stereo and a GPS unit were missing. A neighbor’s vehicle had a smashed-out window as well.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside, North Riverside and Brookfield police departments, Dec. 24, 2012 to Jan. 6, 2013, and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anybody named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. These cases have not been adjudicated.
