Lyons Township boys swimming

The sectional host Lions qualified all three relays along with swimmers in five individual events for the state tournament.

Junior Brendan Weibel had a huge day at the Lyons Sectional, advancing to state by winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.70) and 500 free (4:42.58). Peter Dore also qualified for state by taking the 50 free (21.63) title. LT’s other state qualifiers include Ben Hewett, who took second behind Weibel in the 500 free by touching the wall at 4:44.59, and Joe Shannon, who finished sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.82).

Hinsdale Central claimed the sectional with 270 points, followed by Wheaton Co-op (208) and LT (205).

Riverside-Brookfield boys swimming

RB sophomores Quinn Risley and Kevin Garza punched their tickets for the state finals at the Fenwick Sectional on Saturday.

Risley won the 50 free (21.65) and took fourth in the 100 free (47.98) to advance in both events. Fellow state qualifier Garza finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 52.60 seconds.

Fenwick (412 points) won the sectional while RB took third place (349).

Lyons Township wrestling

In the fifth-place match of Saturday’s Class 3A State finals, A.J. Villareal dropped a 6-3 decision to Kamal Bey of Oak Park. In the wrestleback quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, Villareal defeated Notay Jackson (Mount Carmel) 4-3 and lost to Corbett Oughton (Minooka) 8-2.

Riverside-Brookfield football

The Bulldogs will host a couple of events for area youth in the upcoming months. On March 1 at 6 p.m., young athletes in grades 3-8 are encouraged to attend the RB Father/Son Football Clinic. RB head coach Brendan Curtin and the Bulldogs’ football staff will cover several drills for all positions that young athletes can develop into their offseason training regimen. The clinic will be held in RB’s main gymnasium. The fee is $25.

Curtin and the RB football staff will also host the Bulldog QB-WR Academy, a top-level training and instructional camp geared toward 5th-8th grade quarterbacks and wide receivers. The camps will be held at RB’s Shuey Stadium and the fieldhouse on the following Sundays between 4-6 p.m.: April 7, 14, 21, 28 and May 5, 12. The fee is $130.

Fenwick wrestling

Fenwick’s Mike Kozyra battled his way through the Class 2A State wrestlebacks to place fourth in the 160-pound weight division. Kozyra wrestled Alex Vosburgh of Mt. Vernon to a 14-11 decision to advance to the third-place match where he lost to Pontiac’s Alex Friedman with a fall at 5:13.
