After winning eight games last spring, the Riverside-Brookfield girls water polo team is looking for more this season. The Bulldogs will try to build off last season’s success with new head coach Sofia Pappanastos.
“The team has a lot of potential but just needs to get the confidence level up,” Pappanastos said. “The players know how to work together and communicate well. They are going into the season with positive attitudes. If they keep working hard, I think that they will surprise themselves.”
The RB roster offers experience with nine seniors, including starters Caitlin Parisi, Allie Shumowsky and Emma Veon along with talented juniors Sydney Veon and Dana Callanan. Ariel Moon is also expected to play a major role this season for the Lady Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs opened the regular season last week with a 7-6 loss to Morton. Sydney Veon (three goals) and Emma Veon (two goals) led the offense, while Parisi had 16 blocks in goal.
“I think a main goal for us is to win more games than last year,” Pappanastos said. “We have a full schedule including four tournaments and I think everybody is excited about the season.”
