Well, it’s a far cry from the 120-foot giant that once towered over Kiwanis Park, but the new white oak tree that stands in place of the fallen Constitution Oak might get there someday.

While none of us will see it reach those heights — at about 8 feet tall, it sure doesn’t cut a dashing figure yet — Brookfield ought to thank the LaGrange-Le Portage Daughters of the American Revolution for the gift of a replacement for the lost, lamented, local landmark.

It may not seem like much right now, but one day it will fit right in with the wonderful specimens that populate the park and nearby oak savanna. Thanks, DAR, for thinking of us.
