Lyons Township softball

The Lions edged Hinsdale South 3-2 on Saturday as pitcher Ashley Koziol fired a four-hitter and struck out 12 batters. Meg Klima provided the key hit with a game-winning RBI.

LT also defeated Queen of Peace 5-1 last week behind Kayla Morrissey’s two hits and an RBI. Winning pitcher Katie Dzierwa (2-0) threw a two-hitter.

Lyons Township girls track & field

Lyons scored 74 points to finish fifth at the Downers Grove Invitational. The Lions won the 800 relay with a time of 1:48.18 and MaKayla Hubbard took top honors in the shotput with a toss of 41-2.

Riverside-Brookfield boys volleyball

The Bulldogs (12-5) took down Payton 25-20, 21-25, 25-19 in a three-game match thriller on Friday.

Mitch Malloy (10 kills), Tim Thor-Larsen (9 kills) and Mike Kosik (6 kills) paced RB offensively, while Jake Fieseler and Jack Gibson had nine digs and six digs, respectively, to contain the Grizzlies.

RB earned a split in its other games last week, losing to St. Francis 18-25, 16-25 but beating Fenton 25-7, 25-16 in a Metro Suburban Conference matchup. Against the Bison, Thor-Larsen paced the victors with eight kills and Gibson chipped in four kills. Kosik also played well with four kills and a pair of blocks.

Lyons Township girls soccer

The Lions dropped a 2-1 decision to Loyola at Schaumburg’s Olympic Park in Pepsi Showdown action on Saturday.

Audrey Anfield scored the game-winning goal in the Lions’ 1-0 win over Hinsdale South on April 11 in an earlier Pepsi matchup last week.

Riverside-Brookfield girls soccer

The Bulldogs (4-7, 2-0) opened Metro Suburban Conference play in fine fashion by picking up a 3-0 win over Illiana Christian and a 2-1 victory against Fenton last week.

RB looks to remain unbeaten in conference with games against Timothy Christian and Glenbard South this week along with Saturday’s Noon nonconference tilt against visiting Leyden.

Riverside-Brookfield boys tennis

With cold and rainy conditions cancelling three matches last week, the Bulldogs managed to squeeze in one dual match against Nazareth (April 8). Unfortunately, the Roadrunners blanked RB in a 7-0 decision although sophomore Jack Robling played well in a tough three-set loss at third singles.
