Brookfield police expect charges soon against a Chicago man who allegedly offered to expose himself to a 7-year-old boy on Saturday evening in the 8500 block of Rockefeller Avenue.

Police apprehended the man — who has not yet been identified because he hasn’t been charged — at his home on Sunday evening about 6 p.m., according to Brookfield Police Lt. Edward Petrak. The man is reportedly in his 20s and lives on the Southwest Side of Chicago. He was driving a gray vehicle at the time of the Brookfield incident.

A representative from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office was expected to interview the suspect and witnesses either Monday night or on Tuesday, following a live police lineup, said Petrak. At least three people have identified the suspect from a photo lineup conducted Sunday afternoon, according to the police report.

Police were called to the intersection of Rockefeller and Hollywood avenues about 7:15 p.m. on Saturday night by a witness who reported seeing a gray vehicle pulled over to the curb with its hazard lights on, facing westbound on Rockefeller. The driver of the vehicle was talking to two children, ages 5 and 7, at the corner.

As the witness approached, the vehicle drove away at a high rate of speed. Police soon after received a complaint of a reckless driver in the 3400 block of Hollywood Avenue from another motorist who described the vehicle as being dark gray in color and gave police a license plate number that matched a partial plate number they had obtained from the initial witness.

The second motorist followed the gray vehicle and reported that the suspect was driving recklessly through traffic, as if trying to get out of the area quickly. The gray vehicle was last seen eastbound on Ogden Avenue.

Meanwhile, police interviewed the two children. The 7 year old reportedly told police that the suspect waved for him to come closer to his vehicle and then asked the boy if he wanted to see his penis. At that point, the witness walked over, told the two children to go home and attempted to stop the suspect, who fled in his vehicle.

Brookfield police later learned that the suspect allegedly was involved in a drunk-driving accident about 7:45 p.m. on Saturday at 55th Street and South Merrimac Avenue in Chicago, just blocks from the suspect’s home.

The suspect reportedly was treated at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn before being released to Chicago police custody and posting bail. He was at his Southwest Side home when Brookfield police appeared at his door Sunday evening.
