The totals are in. The Brookfield Police Department’s “Beards and Badges” event raised a total of $3,649.92 for Special Olympics Illinois.

All of our officers and civilian employees had a great time with this fundraiser. With our appearance requirements, many of these guys had never grown out a beard before. They enjoyed poking fun at each other as the days went by and their beards took shape.   The change in appearance also struck up some fun conversations with residents.

Nearly all who could grow beards did, and those who couldn’t helped to raise funds or made donations themselves. Even our clean-cut village manager supported the cause by sporting some facial hair in November.

We’re extremely grateful for the tremendous support. Brookfield is such a generous community. We hope to make this an annual event.
