Harold D. “Fitz” Fitzsimmons, 82, a native of Boston and a former longtime resident of Oak Park, died peacefully on March 30, 2016 in his North Riverside home. 

After serving in the U.S. Air Force in Korea, he had an impressive 50-year career in law enforcement.

Mr. Fitzsimmons began as a patrolman in Riverside, working his way up to deputy chief in Oak Park, police chief of the Brookfield Zoo and served as police chief in Lisle. He was working for the DuPage Metropolitan Enforcement Group when he retired. 

He is survived by his wife, Helene (nee Bralles); his children, Liz (Tony) Natale, Greg (Marla) and Mary (Tom) Wilson; his grandchildren, Candie, Tony and Tori; his great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Davie and Violet; and his brother, Jim Fitzsimmons. 

Mr. Fitzsimmons was preceded in death by his siblings, John, Joseph, Mildred Higgins, William, Richard, Robert, Donald and Paul Fitzsimmons. 

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 16, beginning at 2 p.m. with a memorial service at 4 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 7750 Cermak Road in Forest Park.
