Ellen Kammrath, 97, of LaGrange Park, died on Aug. 20, 2018.
Born on May 30, 1921, she came of age during the Great Depression and cared for two children until her wounded husband returned from the war.
She saw to it that her children were baptized and confirmed in the church and all attended parochial school for 12 years while she worked for several years as church secretary at St. John Church in La Grange.
A visit to her house was never complete without delicious food and a jigsaw puzzle in progress. Creative and industrious, she crocheted beautiful afghans that still adorn the homes of her children and grandchildren, continuing to keep her family cozy and warm on cold evenings.
Ms. Kammath preceded in death by her late husband, William Kammrath. She was the mother of William (Connie) Kammrath, Robert Kammrath, Mark (Julaine) Kammrath and Ruth (Ken) Voight; the grandmother of Aster (Sam Henry) Kammrath, Andrew (Ashley) Kammrath, April (Trevor) Kenyon, Geoff (Susan) Kammrath, Lara Kammrath, Matthew (Brooke) Kammrath, Barbara (Lucas) Anderson; and the great-grandmother of Liana Anderson, Riley and Grayson Kammrath.
Services have bene held. Interment was at Bethania Cemetery. The family appreciates memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 505 S. Park Ave., LaGrange, 60525.
