Bernard F. Babka, 86, a longtime resident of Riverside, died Sept. 8, 2019.

Born July 31, 1933, Mr. Babka was a lifelong resident of the Chicago area, who was an architect and principal partner of the firm Hammond, Beeby and Babka. The architectural firm designed many American Institute of Architects award-winning buildings, including the Harold Washington Library in Chicago.

He was also an active member of the American Sokol Organization, serving for a time as the group’s president. While a resident of Berwyn, Mr. Babka served on the South Berwyn Elementary School District 100 Board of Education and oversaw the construction and renovation of several schools.

Mr. Babka was the beloved soulmate for 63 years of his wife, Ellie L. Babka (nee Bujak); the father of Kathryn (Timothy) Carr and Janet (Mark) Schreier; and the grandfather of Kaitlin (Jaydeb) Powers and Daniel N. Powers; principle partner of Hammond Beeby and Babka, Chicago.
