In Illinois, Dec. 15 was a big day in the battle against COVID-19. The first doses of vaccine were administered just a couple miles away to healthcare workers at Loretto Hospital in Austin, and more doses of the vaccine will be on the way in the coming weeks and months.
There’s light at the end of the tunnel, but the tunnel stretches for some distance before us. Two more people in Brookfield died from COVID-19 in recent days – four of the village’s eight deaths have come since Thanksgiving Day – a clear warning that we’re not out of the woods yet.
While we seem to be flattening the latest surge, we have another holiday ahead, one we must be sure to celebrate responsibly to avoid a repeat of October and November. We can do this.
