If you want to have one more stroll around the Brookfield Public Library, 3609 Grand Blvd., you don’t have much longer to do so.
The old library will close its doors to the public for good at the end of business on June 12 in anticipation of the move across the street into the new Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library, 3541 Park Ave.
The move is not a one-day operation, however, and the library is expected to be closed for the next four to six weeks as the collection is put in place and systems are made operational in the new building.
From June 14-19, according to a press release, the library’s phones and computers will be completely offline. Beginning June 21, library staff will be available for remote reference help by phone at 708-485-6917, by email at reference@brookfieldlibrary.info or online chat at brookfieldlibrary.info.
The library’s online resources and digital collections remain available throughout the library building’s closure and classes and events, both in-person and virtual, will continue as scheduled.
In anticipation of the old library closing, patrons may wish to stock up on items by June 12 and also return materials or pick up items on hold. If you can’t make it to the library to return items by June 12, you can keep them until the new library opens its doors.
All due dates are being automatically extended through Aug. 2 and overdue fines will be waived.
Those patrons who need to satisfy their in-person library fixes can do so at the LaGrange Park Public Library, 555 N. LaGrange Road, which has partnered with Brookfield to provide in-person services to Brookfield residents.
Brookfield library card holders can pick up holds, access the internet, print documents and take advantage of other services offered by LaGrange Park Public Library. Brookfield patrons can also pick up materials ordered through the SWAN system at LaGrange Park.
