Kathryn Krubel O’Flynn, 70, of Bluffton, South Carolina, and formerly of Riverside, died suddenly on July 29, 2021, following a short illness at the Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. 

Ms. O’Flynn was born on March 20, 1951 in Chicago and raised in Riverside. She always spoke of the fond memories of her days walking to Blythe Park Elementary School on Leesley Road and developing strong friendships which she maintained for the rest of her life. 

She went on to attend Riverside-Brookfield High School and then graduated from the School of Allied Health at the University of Illinois.

Ms. O’Flynn was an accomplished healthcare administrator in the field of health information management. She enjoyed large, complex medical systems and during her career worked at Cook County Hospital, the University of Illinois and the University of Louisville. Free time was for fashion, shopping and the arts as well as family and spoiling her Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. She was a skilled designer and an avid traveler.

She is survived by her husband, Paul, and her daughter, Alison. She is also survived by an elder sibling, Cynthia, and a brother, Fred and his wife Jeanie, of Brookfield. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Frederick; her mother, Dorothy, whom Kathryn cared for in the final years of her life, and her younger brother, Christopher.

While she did not wish to have a traditional funeral, a celebration of her life will take place in her hometown of Riverside, which she loved so much. The date will be determined by the family based on COVID-related public health guidelines.
