Another home quad, another clean sweep for the Lyons Township High School girls’ volleyball team.

The Lions improved to 7-1 Friday by defeating Montini Catholic 25-11, 25-14, defending Class 3A state runnerer-up 2022 Nazareth Academy 25-16, 25-15 and Normal West 25-27, 27-25, 15-10.

Season leaders are Grace Turner (46 kills, .337 attack percentage, 17 blocks), Abby Markworth (133 assists, 45 digs, 10 aces), Kiley Mahoney (43 digs, 73 service receptions), Sienna Olson and Anabelle Montgomery (35 kills apiece), Maggie Kachmarik (17 aces, 32 digs) and Alita Folkening (16 blocks).

Turner had 10 kills against Normal West. Montgomery had seven and Olson and Maddie Richard five apiece. Markworth had 28 assists and Mahoney had 11 digs.

Turner and Montgomery (5 kills each), Markworth (14 assists, 3 aces) and Mahoney (8 digs) led the way against Nazareth.

Freshman Taylor Carroll (6 kills) and Kachmarik (4 aces) were among top performers against Montini.

The Lions’ only loss was 21-25, 26-24, 25-19 Aug. 30 to undefeated Willowbrook (8-0).

LTHS boys’ soccer

The Lions (2-2-1) tied Loyola Academy 1-1 Saturday and lost to Buffalo Grove 1-0 Aug.30 and Waukegan 3-1 Aug. 29 at New Trier’s Northside College Showcase Tournament. 

LTHS senior goalie Tyler Balon and seniors Collin Sullivan and Jimmy Brejcha were named to the all-tournament team.

Declan Kracker scored Saturday with Sullivan assisting. Austin Wiesnewski scored against Waukegan with an assist from Haris Sanajlija.

The LTHS boys shot 301 at the St. Viator Invitational Aug. 26 and tied for second with St. Ignatius behind Hinsdale Central’s 289. The Wolfpack officially was awarded second on a fifth-score tiebreaker.

Kevin Larmon (73), Finley Tyrrell and Anderson Palm (76s) and Tommy Niemiec (77) were the Lions’ counting rounds.

The Lions won their West Suburban Conference Silver dual opener over York 154-157 Aug. 22 behind Charlie Novak, Palm and Niemiec (38s) and Tyrrell (40).

The LTHS girls (3-2) are 3-1 in WSC duals after beating Oak Park and River Forest 177-187 Thursday and losing at York 158-160 Aug. 28.

LTHS also lost to Sandburg 167-174 Aug. 29.

Low rounds for the Lions were Addison Watanabe against York (35) and OPRF (40) and Keira Kessler against Sandburg (41).
