Water main improvements are expected to snarl traffic for about a month beginning Monday.

According to Brookfield officials, water main improvements will begin at the area of the Prairie Avenue/Grand Boulevard/Brookfield Avenue/Fairview Avenue intersection.

Traffic is expected to be impacted, they said, and residents should expect a closure of the Prairie Avenue railroad crossing.

The project includes replacing and reconfiguring the water main system within the intersection area, and installing a hot-mix asphalt surface, as well as restoring the affected curb, gutter, paver crosswalks, paver bump outs, and other related work.

Throughout the construction, the Prairie Avenue/Grand Boulevard/Brookfield Avenue/Fairview Avenue intersection area will be closed to traffic and will include closing the Prairie Avenue railroad crossing.

Traffic will be redirected to Maple Avenue until the project has been completed and the intersection can be reopened. “No parking” signs will be posted near the intersection to allow vehicles to turn around.

See the maps for details.
