A new bakery is set to open next month in Brookfield.
The bakery will sell savory scones and breakfast sandwiches in the morning and wraps during lunch hours. For commuters hoping to get some caffeine on their way to the train, drip coffee is also on the menu.
“It’s pretty much going to be a grab-and-go with some outdoor seating,” Brazel said.
Brazel previously co-owned Sips & Sweets Café, which was located at 1 Riverside Road, Riverside. After that business closed in December 2022, Brazel began making custom cakes and custom cookies for special events like birthdays and baby showers despite not having a brick-and-mortar bakery.
Brazel said that going forward, customers will now be able to place orders for custom cakes and cookies at her new bakery in Brookfield.
“I just started venturing into wedding cakes and cakes for wedding showers and I really like those because they’re elegant, classic and pretty,” she said. “But I also love making a ‘Spider-Man’ cake and then getting pictures of kids smiling, knowing it made their day.”
Some examples of unique cakes that Brazel has made for customers include a LEGO cake, a “Sesame Street” cake, a Chicago White Sox Cake and a cake shaped like Marge from “The Simpsons.”
However, the cake offerings at Krispies Sweet & Savory Shoppe will not be limited to just custom orders.
“I’m going to have pre-made cakes sitting in the freezer,” she said. “I want people to know that they can go to Krispies and pick up a cake after they get off work. I’m hoping to be a staple in Brookfield.”
