If you live in Brookfield and feel strongly about street improvements, now is the time to let your voice be heard.

Brookfield announced Wednesday that the village is hosting an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. July 16 at Village Hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave., for residents to look at preliminary designs for street improvements and give their feedback. Village representatives and a consultant will be at the open house to speak with residents and answer individual questions attendees may have.

The proposed improvements will be to Grand Boulevard from Grant Avenue to Prairie Avenue, Brookfield Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Woodside Avenue, Woodside Avenue from Brookfield Avenue to Parkview Avenue, Parkview Avenue from Woodside Avenue to Gold Road and Golf Road from Parkview Avenue to Washington Avenue.

According to the village, the improvements will involve removing and replacing existing lighting and installing a new, concrete sidewalk with a two-foot-wide strip of brick pavers adjacent to the curb. Tree grates will be removed and replaced with new trees, and brick paver crosswalks, a masonry seat wall and electrical connections will also be installed.

Pedestrian lighting will be installed along Brookfield Avenue on the northern side from Prairie Avenue to Arden Avenue.

According to the village, the project will be under construction next spring and summer; Brookfield has secured $3.5 million in federal funding for the improvements, representing about 80% of the project’s estimated $4.4 million total cost.

If you would like to submit written comments ahead of the meeting through July 23, send them to Director of Public Works Vincent Smith through mail to his office at Village Hall or by email at vsmith@brookfieldil.gov. If you have a disability and need accommodations to attend the open house, contact Smith through email or over the phone at 708-485-2540.
