Taking place on June 7 and 8, Riverside Arts Weekend will bring dance performances, musical acts, art displays and family activities to the community. This year, the festivities are back in Guthrie Park.

During the second weekend of June since 2008, Riverside Arts Weekend brings the community together to celebrate a variety of artistic disciplines.

This year, Riverside Arts Weekend received a one-time grant from Cook County Arts that supports suburban arts organizations after the COVID-19 pandemic. Riverside Arts Weekend Board President Charlotte Zia said this grant will help the art fair to grow and expand.

“We’re lucky recipients of these grants, and it’s just really been helpful to help the Riverside Arts weekend to just rebuild after the COVID and give us a little more to be able to do additional promotion and marketing,” Zia said. “We’re really, really, really excited to be able to have that support.”

They were one of 100 nonprofit organizations in suburban Cook County to receive this grant.

Besides the traditional art fair, visitors can expect performances by local musicians and artsy, child-friendly activities.

The fan-favorite community art-piece project will return, too. Residents will again be able to show off their creative side and make art that will be auctioned off to support the event.

“We are just continuing to try to grow the event and expand and kind of bring it back to what many remember,” Zia said.

As performance and activity schedules become available, information can be found online at riversideartsweekend.org or on the Riverside Arts Weekend Facebook page.

“We really bring together a strong performance schedule and we always make sure that we have activities for the children,” Zia said. “It really is a family-friendly and free community event.”
