
Christine Marie Janiak (née Kuras), 83, lovingly known as “Kissy Grandma,” died peacefully on March 30, 2026, in McHenry. Born on Oct. 28, 1942, in Chicago, her life was marked by her unwavering faith and dedication to her church community. She had a knack for bringing joy to others, whether through cooking delicious meals for loved ones or sharing a laugh with friends and neighbors. Her sense of humor was infectious; she’d do almost anything for a laugh.
She had a passion for thrift shopping and could always find treasures in unexpected places. She delighted in the simple joys of life, creating lasting memories with those she held dear. Her adventurous spirit extended to being a “partner in crime” with the neighborhood moms during her children’s upbringing.
Her nickname captured the warmth and affection she showered upon everyone. Her passing leaves a void but also a legacy of love, laughter, and faith that will continue to inspire.
Christine was the cherished daughter of Michael and Pauline Kuras, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Nikki) Janiak and Susan (Steve) Silhavy; her five grandchildren, Alex (Kyle) Collman, Courtney (Alex) Silcott, Kali (Zachary) Kaminski, Emma Janiak, and Daniel Silhavy; and her two great-grandchildren, Owen and Vivian Collman, with another great-grandson expected soon.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24 from 3 to 8 p.m. at Hitzeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 9445 31st Street, Brookfield. Mass will be celebrated on April 25 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Louise de Marillac Church, 30th and Raymond, La Grange Park. Interment priv
