Residency verification for Riverside Brookfield High School District 208 is crucial not only for students, but for taxpayers.
According to Dave Mannon, assistant principal of student affairs, all parents and guardians have until June 1 to upload school year 2026-27 required documents to the online Skyward Residency Portal to verify district residency, which accomplishes an important goal.
“It ensures fairness and accountability by confirming that district resources are directed to families residing in the district and eligible to attend Riverside Brookfield High School,” Mannon said.
Failure to complete the process by June 1 will result in suspension of a student’s enrollment.
Parents and guardians need to provide two sets of documents for residency verification, he said.
Required is one document from Group A, including the most recent real estate tax bill; a signed lease extending into the 2026-27 school year; a mortgage statement or payment book; or a military housing residency attestation.
Three documents are required from Group B, which is comprised of current utility bills, phone bills, bank or credit card statements, or public assistance or Medicaid documentation.
Mannon said the portal, which can be accessed via www.rbhs208.net or the Skyward mobile app, accepts multiple file types, including Jpeg, PDF and Microsoft Word documents.
After residency is approved, families are provided with a link to schedule an in-person summer registration appointment, he added. During Wednesday registration events held throughout July, students and their parents or guardian visit school to complete final enrollment activities.
In-person appointment dates are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. July 15 and July 22; and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 29.
At registration, families may pay school fees; purchase physical education class uniforms, yearbooks and activity passes; sign acknowledgement forms for the student handbook; take student ID and yearbook photos; meet with representatives from health services, student affairs and athletics; and receive student schedules.
What if residency is denied?
“Families who are not approved receive a denial notification and letter informing them that enrollment for the 2026-27 school year cannot proceed based on the residency investigation and documentation reviewed,” Mannon said. “Families who reside outside of the district boundaries must register their student in the school district in which they reside.”
He added that the residency process follows Illinois state law, which prohibits knowingly or intentionally providing false residency information to a school district, which is considered a Class C misdemeanor.
