Brookfield police on July 1 ticketed an 18-year-old Berwyn man after he drove a car without a working taillight.
Around 11:30 p.m., an officer noticed the passenger-side taillight on the man’s car was out. The officer pulled their squad car behind the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on the 9400 block of Ogden Avenue. The officer explained the reason for the stop to the man, who was driving.
The man said he did not have his wallet on his person and could not provide a copy of his ID. The man shared his name and date of birth, which the officer ran through the police database to learn the man had never been issued a driver’s license, which the man later acknowledged.
The officer issued the man citations for driving without a valid license and one count of an inoperative taillight and set an Aug. 11 court date. The officer told the man his car would have to be towed from the scene of the traffic stop. Around 1 a.m., someone else whose information was redacted arrived at the police station and paid the tow fee.
Iowa City man ticketed
Brookfield police ticketed a 22-year-old man from Iowa City, Iowa, on July 3.
Around 2:45 a.m., an officer was on patrol heading west on the 8700 block of 31st Street when they observed a car accelerating to a speed of 56 mph in the posted 30 mph zone in the opposite direction. The officer made a U-turn and pulled the car over for a traffic stop after they caught up with it near the intersection with Golfview Avenue.
The officer explained the reason for the stop to the driver and asked the man why he was speeding. The man said he was only driving home, according to police. The officer issued the man a citation for aggravated speeding and had his vehicle towed.
Welfare check for dogs
On June 30, Brookfield police conducted a welfare check after a resident reported they were worried about their neighbor’s dogs.
Around 1:45 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the 9100 block of Brookfield Avenue for a welfare check after a resident called dispatchers to share their concerns about their neighbor’s three dogs due to that neighboring home having no power since the day before.
The officer made contact with a man at the residence in question and shared the reason for the welfare check. The man said he was planning to take the dogs to someone else’s residence if power had not been restored by the next day. The officer confirmed with the man that the dogs had access to food and water.
The officer later contacted the complainant and explained what they had learned. The officer told the complainant to reach out again if they further believed the dogs were not being properly cared for.

Anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
