Douglas Harper Reed, 90, of Riverside, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he carried with him a strong sense of dedication, discipline, and service throughout his life. He was also a longtime member of Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, where he formed friendships and memories that remained meaningful to him. He had a curious and thoughtful mind and had a particular appreciation for business and finance, keeping up with the world of investments and financial affairs. He was also an avid football fan and could often be found following the game and discussing the teams and players. An enthusiastic reader, he valued the opportunity to learn, explore new ideas, and lose himself in a good book.
Those who knew him will remember him for his intelligence, quiet interests, and the unique perspective he brought to the people and world around him. His life was shaped by a love of learning, a spirit of service, and the relationships he built along the way.
Doug was the husband of Janet Mende Reed; the father of Melissa Jo Kerswell and Douglas H. Jr. (Linda) Reed; the grandfather of Douglas H. Reed III, William James Reed, Nathan Garrett Reed and Emily Jo (Everett) Yeaw; brother of the late James Alexander Reed Jr.; brother-in-law of Barbara (Mick) Jolley, Patricia (Thomas) Keonig, Paula Kaye (late Paul) Rabidoux and Larry (Julie) Peterman; uncle of Traci (Terence) Williams, Frank Herbert, Graham (Sharon) Manges, Mary (Frank) Luyando, Tonya (Arthur) Duda, Joshua Koenig, Andres Malvarez, Kathryn Koenig and Jessica (John) Montalbano.
