Police in Brookfield, North Riverside and Riverside will be increasing traffic patrols through Nov. 25 as part of the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s Division of Public Safety.

The enforcement period began Monday and will continue through the Thanksgiving weekend. During that time, police will add patrols to watch for motorists disobeying seatbelt and other traffic laws as well as watching for intoxicated motorists.

Grant money obtained by the departments from IDOT goes directly toward additional street patrols specifically targeting those traffic offenses.

The departments will increase patrols around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays as well as part of that same grant program.
