Shannon Layng, of Riverside, raised more than $34,000 to fund the planting of 107 trees in the village as a service project to help fulfill the requirements of the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.

The Riverside Garden Club donated $5,000 to kick start the effort. The trees were planted on parkway areas in Riverside by the village’s public works department at the end of October.
