Although both of its churches remain closed to parishioners for group worship, members of Holy Guardian Angels Parish — which comprises St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park and St. Barabara Church in Brookfield — marked Pentecost with a special “Keep the Fire Burning” ceremony and vigil on May 30.
The ceremony began at St. Barbara Church in Brookfield where Father Denis Condon, the pastor, presided over a short prayer service before lighting a small boonfire, representing the coming of the Holy Spirit, in front of the church.
A small flame then was taken in a procession to St. Louise Church for another prayer service and bonfire lighting. Flames burned until midnight at both sites with parishioners tending the fires.
