John Radocha Jr., 97, a resident of Stickney and a longtime crossing guard for the village of Riverside, died Sept. 23, 2020.
Mr. Radocha was born Jan. 4, 1923 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a crossing guard in Riverside for 25 years, retiring in November 2013 at the age of 90.
Upon his retirement, Village President Ben Sells presented Radocha with a certificate of appreciation at a village board meeting for his two-plus decades of dedicated service.
“John took his job, protecting the children very serious and for those of us who knew him saw him on duty every day, rain or shine,” said Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel.
