LTHS girls take 3rd at indoor track conference meet
Lyons Township High School senior Kira Krzemkowski had a lot to jump about at the West Suburban Conference-Silver Division indoor girls track and field meet at Proviso West on March 18.
Krzemkowski won high jump (season best 5 feet, 1 inch) in helping the Lions finish third (100 points), just 10 points behind first-place Hinsdale Central with far from a full lineup.
She also was second in long jump (5.03 meters/16-6), an event in which she just started competing, and fourth in triple jump (10.20 meters/33-5 3/4), both with personal bests.
“It was a good meet overall,” Krzemkowski said. “I would definitely say high jump’s my favorite. It’s a really fun sport. I really like long jump, too. It’s a really close second. I actually just started last meet.”
Junior Becky Phillips won the 400 meters (1 minute, 1.58 seconds) and LTHS won the 800-meter relay with junior Emma Kwak, seniors Ava Kuhlman and Nora Gannon and junior Claire McVady (1:50.04). Kwak (200 in 27.07) and senior Bella Mitchell (34-7 in shot put) were second.
The LTHS boys were fifth at the indoor conference championships (50.5 points) on March 18 at York High School in Elmhurst. Senior and Tulane recruit Chuck McLawhorn won the 3,200 meters (9:36.06). Senior Isaiah Lopez (44-0 in shot put) and junior Will Diessa (43-0 in triple jump) were second.
