Barbara C. Newman

Barbara C. Newman (nee Coyle), 85 of Riverside died peacefully at home on July 1, 2023. 

Barbara was born Oct. 5, 1937 in Gary, Indiana, to Frances (Frank) and Louise Coyle.  She attended Stenbrook Hall in Duluth, Minnesota, and Rosary College (now Dominican University) in River Forest. She then attended two years at the DePaul University College of Law.

She was the assistant corporate secretary of Pullman Corporation and then managed the Pullman Inc. Foundation and the corporate stock option plans. Barbara then spent several years as a real estate agent in Riverside, followed by managing the law office of David C. Newman. 

Barbara had varied interests, including her love of travel, opera, animals, reading, puzzles and playing bridge with her friends. She was the past president and active member of the Fortnightly Club of Riverside and the P.E.O. Chapter in Riverside.

Barbara was the wife of David C. Newman for 41 years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Lahnum. She is survived by her husband, David C. Newman; her stepdaughter, Jennifer (Patrick) White; her uncle and many cousins.

Memorial visitation is on Sunday, July 16, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Ivins-Moravecek Funeral Home 80 E. Burlington St., Riverside. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. St. Mary Church, 126 Herrick Road, Riverside on July 17 at 11 a.m. 

In lieu of flowers it is Barbara’s request that a donation be made to PAWS, West Suburban Humane Society and St. Paul VI Church in Riverside.
