Three Brookfield business owners were recognized last week for improving the appearances of their businesses.

Members of Brookfield’s beautification commission, including Trustee Katie Kaluzny, the board liaison to the commission, went around town to present 2023 Brookie Awards to three winners the commission chose earlier this year.

Dr. Shikha Kapoor of Brookfield Dental Studio, Julie Procich and Diane Magno of Sister Squared Florist, and Jennifer O’Desky of Pub 78 received their framed Brookie Awards on Friday. Each business also received a sticker for its front windows.

According to the village, Kapoor and O’Desky took advantage of Brookfield’s Property Improvement Program (PIP), which enables property owners to make improvements to their building’s exterior through 50% reimbursement grants up to $20,000. Kapoor used the grant to make a “comprehensive makeover” to the outside and inside of her business. O’Desky obtained the grant to improve the exterior of Pub 78. The improvements include code-compliant signage and a new pair of folding doors that can open the front of the bar onto Grand Boulevard.

While Procich and Magno did not use the PIP, they remade their storefront into a “charming, welcoming, pet-friendly space full of floral displays,” the village said.
