Senior Gigi Montoro of North Riverside and her Nazareth Academy girls golf teammates are going back to the Class 1A state meet.

The Roadrunners (342) won the Eastland Sectional Monday at Lake Carroll in Lanark to earn their second straight state trip in addition to the program’s only other berth in 2015.

The 1A state meet is Friday and Saturday at Red Tail Run in Decatur.

Montoro’s 91 was the fourth counting score. Senior Kacey Hughes and junior Maryssa Zielinski (81s) tied for fifth and junior Anna Bukovac shot 89, followed by junior Caitlin Sullivan (100) and sophomore Claire Krema (111). 

This was the Roadrunners’ first sectional title. 

On Thursday, the Roadrunners won the Providence Regional (362) for their first regional crown since 2012. Hughes and Zielinski (88s) tied for third and Montoro (91) was fifth.

Montoro, Hughes and Zielinski earned All-East Suburban Catholic Conference honors.

Last season, the Roadrunners finished 12th at state (395) and missed the second day’s top-eight team cut. Montoro (102) tied for 99th in missing the individual cut. Hughes (tied for 51st, 175) and Zielinski (tied for 68th, 188) played 36 holes. Bukovac shot 110 the first round.
